BMW striking Concept C scooter

BMW has shown a new concept called the Concept C scooter which aims to combine the stability of a motorcycle and the agility and practicality of a scooter. With scooters already on the market it is closest in concept to the Yamaha T-Max. Find a gallery and video after the jump.

Car OEMs enter Motorcycle realm?

With modern metropolises becoming more and more congested, OEMs are looking into new ways to power their vehicles by way of hybrid technology, battery-powered vehicles and hydrogen fuel cells. But now it seems OEMs are also looking at different modes of transport such as the scooter. Both Mini and Smart showed off their new electric scooters at the Paris Motor Show and seem to redefine their respective companies as mobility providers rather then mere car manufacturers.

Triumph Adventure Teaser

Triumph is expected to launch two new models to compete in the adventure on-/offroad segment, where traditionally BMW has been very strong with its R1200GS and F800GS. The Triumph Tiger has operated in this segment, but the current model arguably has too much of a road focus. As part of their launch campaign Triumph has launched a dedicated website.

Brammo Empulse – 100mph electric naked bike

This is the new electric motorcycle launched by Brammo which will be sold besides their current model Enertia. The motorcycle comes in three different guises, Empulse 6.0, Empulse 8.0, & Empulse 10.0, where the number refers to the range of the batteries, being 60, 80 or 100 miles respectively. The motorcycle combines streetfighter and cafe racer design into a very attractive package, which is somewhat reminiscent of Italian motorcycles.

Venturi acquires Voxan

A couple of weeks ago Voxan sold off its assets, as reported in an earlier article. With this it seemed the name Voxan would feature on motorcycles no more, but now it is reported that the company has been bought by Venturi, the Monaco based manufacturer of electric cars.

Positive results Triumph

This year saw Triumph’s 20th anniversary of the make’s relaunch, under John Bloor’s leadership, and unlike some other start-ups in the last 2 decades, where we have seen a number of bankruptcies, Triumph is posting healthy results. This despite the recent financial crisis.

BMW Motorcycle sales are up Q1 2010

BMW Motorcycles has seen a surge in sales in the first quarter of 2010 compared to the same period last year. This despite the 500 cc+ segment seeing negative growth of 12.3 % worldwide. In terms of units they sold 20,840 compared to 17,232 in Q1 2009, representing a 20.9% increase.

Voxan assets sold off


The French motorcycle maker went into liquidation several months back. Regrettably, Voxan was forced to sell its assets of in an auction in March. Voxan ran into financial trouble before, at the end of 2001, and was bought by Société de Développement et de Participation in 2002 to guarantee continuation. This time however, the maker could not secure enough funds to continue trading.

Changing motorcycle segments


The UK motorcycle market is a significant market in Europe, being the 5th largest after Italy, Spain, France and Germany respectively. Over the last two years we have seen a downward trend in motorcycle sales in most of the European markets. Although this trend has continued at the beginning of 2010, there are signs of recovery.
