Lito Sora

Lito, a Montreal based company, has launched the Sora, an electric motorcycle with attitude. The motorcycle manages to include both  bobber and café racer style influences despite the lack of an ICE. It features a belt drive with a beautifully machines rear swing arm. The chassis is constructed from aluminium and the bodywork is made out of carbon fibre. With such a specification it isn’t likely to be cheap but they have managed to produce a striking motorcycle that might convert fans of ICE naked bikes to electric motoring.

Ducati Power Cruiser

Motorcycle OEMs are always on the lookout for new motorcycle segments. Ducati has traditionally always operated in the sports and supersports segments but is looking to expand into new areas as we’ve seen with the Multistrada. News has emerged they are in the testing phase for a power cruiser.

IED Designs for Ducati

Ducati, always a design-led company, has teamed up with the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) of Turin to collaborate on a thesis project with the Transportation Design students.

The company will benefit from such collaboration with fresh thinking from the students and the students gain valuable work experience within a realistic design brief.

The actual brief reads as follows:

Identify the recognizable signs of the future Ducati, using them to design a Ducati motorbike able to live with the current Monster, but not to replace it

BMW HP KUNST concept

This striking concept for a BMW was conceived by a small team of design students at ISD of Valenciennes in France. The minimalist design incorporates a hydrogen fuel cell with a Li-Po battery. The fuel cell is positioned at an angle where traditionally the engine would be. The bike features both front and rear single sided swing arms that incorporate electromagnetic suspension. Like more traditional BMW’s it uses a shaft drive but is powered by a 100 kilowatt motor.

30 Years of BMW GS

As part of a 30 years anniversary celebration of the iconic GS motorcycle, BMW will launch special editions of the F650GS, F800GS, R1200GS, and R1200GS Adventure models. All models will get a white paint scheme with red and blue “30 Years GS” stickers on the tank. Just like the original the anniversary bikes will get the trademark red seating. The first GS was launched back in 1980 and was called the R80 G/S, where G/S stood for Gelände/Straße meaning offroad/road.

Designer Profile: Miguel Angel Galluzzi

The Italian designer Miguel Angel Galluzzi was born in Buenos Aires in 1959. He designed amongst others, the iconic Ducati Monster back in 1992. This was the bike that made the naked bike segment exciting again and can be considered as one of the most influential motorcycle designs. The motorcycle gave Ducati a then much needed sales success.

Voxan assets sold off


The French motorcycle maker went into liquidation several months back. Regrettably, Voxan was forced to sell its assets of in an auction in March. Voxan ran into financial trouble before, at the end of 2001, and was bought by Société de Développement et de Participation in 2002 to guarantee continuation. This time however, the maker could not secure enough funds to continue trading.

Yamaha introduces new Ténéré


Yamaha will launch a new version of the Ténéré. This new bike, will feature a 1199cc parallel twin engine producing 108bhp and 84ft-lb of torque. Video available after the jump.

KTM Freeride Prototypes

KTM will show electric motorcycle prototypes under the name Freeride. This is an interesting development as these look like near production ready bikes. Details are still sketchy but it could suggest KTM is readying itself for launching electric motorcycles. This move would make KTM one of the first major motorcycle manufacturers to do so.
