With such a specification it isn&#8217;t likely to be cheap but they have managed to produce a striking motorcycle that might convert fans of ICE naked bikes to electric motoring.</div>

<p>The scooter is powered by a two-cylinder engine mated to a CVT transmission. It has dual LCD screens which function as instrumentation and connected to cameras acts as rear view mirrors. Further, it sports some very aggressive looking LED headlights.</p>

<p>With modern metropolises becoming more and more congested, OEMs are looking into new ways to power their vehicles by way of hybrid technology, battery-powered vehicles and hydrogen fuel cells. But now it seems OEMs are also looking at different modes of transport such as the scooter. Both Mini and Smart showed off their new electric scooters at the Paris Motor Show and seem to redefine their respective companies as mobility providers rather then mere car manufacturers.</p>
<p><span id="more-393"></span></p>
<p>Mini will introduce a scooter with two wheel-hub mounted electric motors and uses lithium-ion batteries. Three variants will be shown and performance will include a top speed of 60km/h and a range of about 100km.</p>

<p>Motorcycle OEMs are always on the lookout for new motorcycle segments. Ducati has traditionally always operated in the sports and supersports segments but is looking to expand into new areas as we&#8217;ve seen with the Multistrada. News has emerged they are in the testing phase for a power cruiser.</p>
<p><span id="more-375"></span></p>
<p>The new bike is in the same vein as the Harley-Davidson VRSC V-rod. A spy-photo emerged from Italian news site <a href="http://www.motosprint.it/produzione/2010/07/19-2915/Nuova+Ducati+maxi+cruiser">MotoSprint</a> showing a low-slung motorcycle with a relative long wheel base. It is rumoured the bike will be called &#8216;Diavel&#8217;, Italian for devil.</p>

<p>Ducati, always a design-led company, has teamed up with the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) of Turin to collaborate on a thesis project with the Transportation Design students.</p>
<p>The company will benefit from such collaboration with fresh thinking from the students and the students gain valuable work experience within a realistic design brief.</p>
<p>The actual brief reads as follows:</p>
<blockquote><p>Identify the recognizable signs of the future Ducati, using them to design a Ducati motorbike able to live with the current Monster, but not to replace it</p></blockquote>
<p><span id="more-336"></span></p>
<p>The designs were part of a elimination round, whereby first ten students created design sketches out of which five were chosen to further develop and finally two were chosen where the students had to create a 1:4 scale model of their Ducati. The final choice was with Ducati who chose TWINS by Simone Buonpensiere and Daniele Mazzon and was turned into a full scale motorcycle. The motorcycle combines design elements from the hypermotard and monster. Here is how the designers describe their creation:</p>
<blockquote><p>Twins is a supermotard category bike capable of satisfying the requirements of a broad range of clientele. The project was developed with the aim of creating two motorbikes with different characteristics yet based on the same original layout. The first version, of which the full scale model has been created, was designed to satisfy a more glamourous audience thanks to the customisable saddle with a variety of different technical fabrics, colours and graphics; the second was instead designed to attract a more sporting and dynamic clientele seeking a more extreme and fun-to-ride bike</p></blockquote>

<p>This is the new electric motorcycle launched by Brammo which will be sold besides their current model Enertia. The motorcycle comes in three different guises, Empulse 6.0, Empulse 8.0, &amp; Empulse 10.0, where the number refers to the range of the batteries, being 60, 80 or 100 miles respectively. The motorcycle combines streetfighter and cafe racer design into a very attractive package, which is somewhat reminiscent of Italian motorcycles.</p>

<p>It features a 40 bhp liquid-cooled engine with a battery pack mounted in between an aluminium frame. Prices start at $9,995 for the 6.0, $11,995 for the 8.0, and $13,995 for the 10.0. The Empulse weighs 177kg, this combined with impressive torque available from standstill, should provide for competitive performance. Further, the company claims a top speed of 100mph, which for an electric motorcycle is impressive. When looking at the performance and price of the top spec model, it starts to make quite a good case for itself compared to traditional ICE naked bikes.</p>
<p>Deliveries will start next year, so interested prospects will have to wait a while, but we definitely look forward to this addition to the market.</p>
